Jack Ma Put in His Place: This Anthill is Being Flattened. [Ken Wu]

Image
This anthill is being flattened.  Ant Financials, a group controlled by Alibaba, has been positioning itself as a technology and internet company and NOT a financial institution, and up to now is offering online banking, securities, insurance, credit and other financial services without complying with China's financial regulations, including capital sufficiency requirements.  On October 24 at the Shanghai Financial Summit, Jack Ma launched a blistering public attack on Chinese financial watchdogs and banks. "In China, it is not a problem of systemic financial risk because China's financial sector does not have a system," he smugly proclaimed.  (Did he mean except for Ant Financials?) "The regulatory system in China is stifling innovation and must be reformed to fuel growth," he continued, as China's financial regulators sat listening. (Was that a demand for regulators to leave Ant alone, let it do what it wants, and even to regula...

The U.S. Crackdown on Chinese American Researchers Endangers the Future of Science

Image
The U.S. Crackdown on Chinese American Researchers Endangers the Future of Science Ethnically Chinese scientists are fighting a long history of U.S. persecution  This is a common tactic used to disenfranchise and impoverish minorities particularly black people  Shortly after dawn on May 21, 2015, FBI agents came to physicist Xiaoxing Xi’s front door with guns drawn and a battering ram for backup. They arrested him on charges of wire fraud and released him only after he put his house up as collateral against a $100,000 bond. Xi, who lived in a quiet suburb of Philadelphia, attracted attention as a world-renowned expert in thin films, substances used for building superconductors. The 57-year-old had just been named interim chair of Temple University’s physics department. He was the principal or co-principal investigator on nine federally funded research projects on thin films, had grants totaling over $1 million per year, and led a team of 14 researchers. The profess...

The US in reality is reacting aggressively to a rising Chinese power whose economic gains threaten US global supremacy.

Veteran US diplomat Chas Freeman says that despite talk of a New Cold War between the US and China, the US in reality is reacting aggressively to a rising Chinese power whose economic gains threaten US global supremacy.  Watch the video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BrpU9kroOFU   Freeman, who served in top State Department positions and as Richard Nixon's chief interpreter on his historic 1972 visit to China, discusses the state of US-China relations and flashpoints such as Hong Kong, Taiwan, and the repression of Uyghur Muslims in Xinjiang. "Since around 1870 , we have been the preeminent society on the planet -- the wealthiest and technologically most advanced, the most influential. And China's overtaking us," Freeman says. "So there's a psychological issue here. The good deal of what we're doing is better explained by psychology than by statecraft. China does threaten American economic supremacy, may have already passed us in many ways... Whet...

The Chinese Model of Governance, a paradigm shift

Image
The Chinese governance ideology and philosophy goes back 5000 years. Maoism looked at all the different system of governance from Plato to Marx and Lenin, tweak, mixed and match it to suit China's local conditions and you have what you have the China of today. When China opened up during the 70s, the CCP sent thousands of cadres to overseas on a fact finding mission to learn the best practices and bring home to tweak it to suit China's local environment and condition. That's what Chinese governance is all about. https://www.paradigmshift.com.pk/chinese-model-of-governance/

GHANA MUST GO: The ugly history of Africa’s most famous bag [Africa Full Facts]

Image
AFRICA'S MOST FAMOUS Bag [Africa Full Facts]  GHANA MUST GO: The ugly history of Africa’s most famous bag It was the bags that made up Solomon “Acquaye” Asiedu’s mind. They were cheap, ordinary bags. They had no name and came in blue and red, in big and medium sizes, all checked. They were wanted in Lagos markets with an intensity never experienced before. Nigerian traders sold out of the bags as hundreds jostled to get as many as they could to pack their things  into. The bags had always been popular: they were big and spacious and sturdy enough for long-haul travel. But it was when people started calling them “Ghana must go” bags that the young man knew it was time to leave. The bags followed him home, as he crossed two countries to return to Ghana and, 36 years later, they still stare at him from stores on every corner — with the same cursed name. They represent a period of despair that many Ghanaians would rather forget. The year was 1983, the day, January 17. ...

Why we don’t need to repay the national debt – and why doing so would be incredibly economically harmful [Richard Murphy]

@RichardJMurphy: "I am bemused by those who demand that we repay the UK government’s debt. It makes me wonder, do they…" Posted on   December 20 2020 I have just posted this on Twitter - as a rather long thread. But it's important to explain why the debt fetishists are wrong to demand rep[ayment of what is incorrectly called our national debt, and in this post I seek to explain why: I am bemused by those who demand that we repay the UK government’s debt. It makes me wonder, do they know what it is? And how do they think it can be repaid? And do they appreciate the consequences? A thread is coming on......bear with me, because I think you need to know this. First, what is the UK government’s debt? I’ve immersed myself in this issue and can confidently say the Office for National Statistics’s figures are wrong, most especially because they claim that the UK government is in debt by owing money to itself. That’s not possible. Whatever the Office for National Stat...
