Stocks for Adidas fell down by 5.6% at 1:13 pm GMT, making it the biggest loser on the German blue chip index DAX. H&M shares dropped by more than 2.8% in afternoon trading, while Inditex lost 1.6%. Shares for Nike were down almost 4% in premarket trading.

At a daily media briefing at China’s foreign ministry, spokeswoman Hua Chunying, when asked about H&M, held up a photograph of Black Americans picking cotton.


“This was in the U.S. when Black slaves were forced to pick cotton in the fields,” she said.

Hua then held up a second photograph of cotton fields in Xinjiang.


“More than 40% of the cotton in Xinjiang is harvested by machinery, so the alleged forced labour is non-existent

Hopewell Chin’ono, a prominent journalist is still in prison for the crime of tweeting about corruption by Zimbabwe's elites, and people are celebrating the life of Gnimbi, a symbol of rot that has brought poverty and destroyed millions of lives of Zimbabweans.
