Trump and Capitol Hill Protests: LESSONS FOR AFRICANS
Whenever small nations have social unrest rightly or wrongly, , the social media media cash in on them and step in as if to protect what they deem as freedom of expression.
Many countries have to block or restrict internet to douse the fire when the social media owners refuse to yield.
Last night Trump used social media that translated into chaos in America. The country is by no means a beacon of democracy itself. Its a self serving authoritarian corporate oligarchy military industrial complex that has burned down the world for over 250 years.
The country erupted by the sheer power of social media mobilisation from Trump and his anarchist supporers.
What did The social media giants do? They blocked or locked various accounts including that of their president Trump in a bid to douse the tension and halt the spread of chaos in their country.
To us in Africa, we are always thinking they stand for freedom and they are protecting us. But these companies are only using us for our personal data to get more traffic and make money. These social media also assist their corrupt country subverting and destabilising various many countries that dare challenge the power of the Empire. But they go on to protect their own country without waiting for any government to appeal to them. What is scary is the amount of power these individuals who own these media giants wield. We have already seen how seen this power in various elections that have been manipulated by their control of our personal data.
This event in America also showed how white people enjoy so much privilege. We saw how this country violently handled the black lives matter protests. There is no doubt if black protesters had stormed the seat of American power they would have been shot and killed in the thousands.
The social media has become a tool of coercion and the dangers of powerful individuals abusing their power by virtue of ownership of our data. Social media giants are not about Freedom or Democracy, it's a tool of control. If they can do this to an American President, what more to small countries or countries they don't like or want to destabilize?
Nobody can love your country and your people more than us. Let's fight our own battles, douse our own fires and not expect foreigners to help us for they will only lay in wait to pretend to help us rebuild by collecting our data, and resources.
Africa must wake up.
Peace and love..
